About
What is reiki?
Reiki is a natural healing energy which surrounds all life. The name is of Japanese origin from the words 'Rei' meaning universal and 'Ki' meaning energy. It is, in essence, a universal life energy which envelopes our world, and, when harnessed, this positive force for good can be used in a healing capacity to enhance and support outcomes of conventional medical treatments. Reiki is the energy of unconditional love.
How does reiki work?
Reiki works through a process of intention and focus. The practitioner, who has already been attuned to the subtle reiki energies, will state an intention to heal (verbally or mentally) and then draws the energy to themselves by focusing on the universal energy force. This is then delivered to you through the palms of the practitioner.
What does it feel like to have reiki?
In a word, beautiful, everyone has their own unique experience with reiki, depending on what you need as an individual at the time. There is no right, or wrong, experience. You will be either seated, or lying down on the treatment table, fully clothed, and the practitioner delivers the energy by passing the palms of their hands over, or just above various areas of the body. As the palms pass, energy is transferred and this may be felt in a number of ways, but again this depends on the individual. Once in the body the energy will find its way to where it is most needed to relieve physical, emotional, mental or spiritual discomfort or pain. The reiki also re-balances the energy centres - chakras - within the body. The energy is very calming and relaxing and the practitioner will encourage you to close your eyes, clear your mind and allow the reiki to take you on a journey. Some people find this so totally relaxing that they fall asleep during therapy, and this is totally acceptable. Many people report feeling a deep sense of peace and well being after a session, as if they have just enjoyed a power nap.
How will I feel after a reiki session?
Again this depends on the individual and how the energy has worked for you. Some people report instant pain relief, or extreme relaxation. In some instances a sense of a loss of time has been noted. Essentially nothing negative, as reiki is a positive energy of unconditional love offered to help heal the body and restore balance within. It is a complimentary therapy and should only be used alongside, and not instead of, conventional medical practices.

Reiki is not a 'magic bullet' to cure all your ills. Please do not expect it to resolve a thirty year old rugby injury in one session! It is helpful with new injuries and post surgery recovery in the short term. Longstanding issues or conditions may take multiple sessions but a degree of immediate pain relief may be felt after a session.
